Medyka-Shehyni border crossing - Mostyska - Sambir - Pidbuzh - Skhidnytsya

Distance: 96 km / 59.5 mi (at least 21 km / 13 mi right before Skhidnytsya are on either very bad pavement or dirt - shown in green on the map). According to Gearoid Pierse, there is 30 km / 18.6 mi of dirt road (his photo of the road is here; see his full report here). It looks like, after heavy rains, it might get pretty slippery. There is a paved detour shown in purple (according to my calculations, it is 26 km / 16 mi long).

Elevation: gain 1079 m / 3,540 ft; drop 738 m / 2,421 ft

Gradient: max asc. 9%, max desc. 11.4%; avg. asc. 1.7%, avg. desc. 1.5%

This route can be ridden either on a mountain bike or on a road bicycle. In the latter case, however, it may be a good idea to take the paved detour via Boryslav in order to bypass the dirt section.

Alternative start - entering Ukraine at the Krościenko-Smilnytsya border crossing - is shown in yellow. See Border crossing for important information. If crossing at Krościenko-Smilnytsya, instead of going east all the way to Sambir, one can ride south (see the Smilnytsya - Rozluch page for more details).
